Registrar/ Pātikitiki

The SWRB is seeking a Registrar to lead the regulatory functions and provide advice on the Board’s statutory function. The Registrar supports the Chief Executive, along with the senior leadership team, in meeting the strategic and operational requirements of the Secretariat, and leads the Regulatory Compliance team.

Are you looking for an opportunity to:

  • take your knowledge of being a modern regulator to the next level
  • lead a team who know the business but want to challenge themselves further in delivering operational excellence
  • oversee a continuous improvement approach to a new regulatory environment
  • incorporates a te ao Māori perspective
  • work in a unique Crown environment that melds regulation with strategic advice on workforce issues
  • play a key role in providing advice and guidance to the Board and leadership for the organisation?

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Registrar role helps the Board meet its responsibilities under the Social Workers Registration Act 2003, exercising the Registrar’s statutory function under the Act, providing advice on matters related directly to the Board’s statutory functions, and supporting the Chief Executive, along with the senior leadership team, in meeting the strategic and operational requirements of the Secretariat.

The Registrar will lead the SWRB’s regulatory and compliance functions of:

  • maintaining the register of social workers
  • registration of social workers and the renewal of their annual practising certificates
  • administration and management of complaints against social workers
  • monitoring of conditions of practice set by PCCs or the Disciplinary Tribunal
  • regulatory social work education and training functions.

The SWRB has an exciting work programme for the year, including bringing a te ao Māori lens into its regulatory world, informing how it does its work. There is a continual improvement focus and it is always looking for ways to do things better, and learning from what is happening elsewhere in the sector. The CE would like to bring on board someone who is keen to build networks across regulators and who applies that knowledge to inform the journey of a modern regulator. They seek a person who will be the SWRB champion for public safety and regulatory excellence and help the organisation continue its transformation.
