The Minister for Social Development and Employment (the Minister) is seeking nominations for a total of four upcoming appointments to two social sector entities:
- 1x social worker appointment to the Social Workers Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal (the Tribunal); and
- 3x social worker appointments to the Board of the Social Workers Registration Board (the Board).
Social Workers Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal
The Minister is looking to appoint one social worker (not being a social worker whose registration or practising certificate is suspended) to the Tribunal. The term of this new member will most likely begin in late August or September.

The Social Workers Registration Board
The Minister is looking to appoint three social workers (not being social workers whose registration or practising certificate is suspended) to the Board, with one member’s term beginning at the start of September and the remaining members terms beginning at the start of January 2025.
The below position description provides the functions of the Social Workers Registration Board, as well as the skills, knowledge and experience required:

For these appointments particular emphasis will be given to candidates who have:
- extensive applied social work experience (10-15 years)
- strong relationship and engagement skills
- strong understanding of tikanga and te ao Māori
- ability to engage effectively with Pacific peoples and diverse ethnic and cultural groups in New Zealand
- strong governance experience
- understanding and knowledge of machinery of government and Crown entity responsibilities
- demonstrated understanding of regulatory functions including public safety.
Following new appointments made to the Board, a new Chairperson will be appointed by January 2025. The Chair will be appointed from among the members of the Board.
